10 New RC Airplane Challenges
1. Indoor
Indoor flying is difficult to conquer for cost and convenience. They are surprisingly sturdy, too. A good indoor trainer is obviously my first recommendation when inquired on the easiest method to enter the hobby. The costs have dropped dramatically from where they were 10 or perhaps 5 years ago.
2. Rotary Wing
Give helicopters a try. You know, those funny looking things that make every one of the noise. They require another set of skills than airplanes. The good ones get expensive, but a tiny trainer isn't any costlier than a jet trainer.
If you want to grab some attention at the field, scratch-build your tricopter or quadcopter. In fact, that is something I have been messing around with myself.
3. Aerial Photography
A tricopter or quadcopter makes an excellent aerial photography platform. I once bought myself a relatively inexpensive $50 micro camcorder and mounted it over a motorglider I had designed. The video quality was terrible, but I a wonderful time shooting footage of me along with the surroundings. It was a hoot!
4. Gliders
Regardless of maybe it's a model or perhaps a full-size sailplane, thermal soaring needs a lifetime to master. Good equipment helps, however the rankings at the competition are just about driven by the level of skill in the pilots that competed.
An entirely different experience from thermal soaring is slope soaring. This is just concerning the pure fun of flying. The glider is usually easy to understand and you'll fly as long as you would like. What's to not like?
5. Scale
This is hugely popular, and I don't blame them. There's no shortage of interesting scale subjects to tackle.
6. Club Officer
If the local model airplane club is anything like the ones around here, almost always there is more that needs to have finished than people to take action. Being a leader is often a skill like any other that gets better with practice. After a couple of numerous years of experience like a club officer, consider becoming a club president. The responsibilities are greater, but so are the rewards.
7. Club Meeting Presentation
I have no idea of what you are, but I can just about guarantee both of you things. First, that you have something of value to share with your fellow club members. And second, that you don't just like the idea of waiting in front of them and telling them!
For me, the simplest way to master an interest is always to volunteer to give a presentation over it. It works each time. I hate thinking about looking silly looking at a number of people, so I learn everything I can about the subject beforehand. I never need to use prepared slides-by time the meeting comes on th scene, I know what I want to say by heart.
8. Volunteer with a Contest
The clubs around listed here are defined by the quality from the contests they assembled. That is also the way they make the majority of their money. I make an effort of volunteering in a major contest one or more times annually. I get to spend considerable time watching other pilots and study a lot each and every time.
For the ultimate thrill, be a contest director. I did that myself last summer. I will probably be CDing my first contest this summer. I expect it to be a lot of effort and a great deal of fun, too.
9. Seaplanes
Don't be too quick to dismiss this when you do not think anybody towards you has been doing it. Ask around. Check the AMA event calendar. All you need is really a lake or pond along with the willingness to get wet! I have even seen temporary indoor shallow pools for indoor seaplanes. You probably already own a model airplane that might work great with floats.
10. Scratch-building and Design
Okay, so I'm a little biased on this. I love airplane design! You should learn how to build from plans first. Then experiment by building some custom-designed parts. Then go whole hog and design, build and fly your individual creation! It may not be the better flying airplane around, however, you won't care. Even before the maiden flight, your mind will be filled with tips on making it better... thank you for visiting the madness!
5 Tips for Flying Your RC Airplane Better
The RC airplane is within the air, the hobbyist is moving it backward and forward, nevertheless it appears to be missing something. Most intermediate and beginner flyers could use just a little help. So, thankfully there are many solutions to improve the flight with the plane.
1. Failure to get ready is preparing to fail
After the plane may be checked for almost any technical failures, or design flaws, take some time to try to help the accuracy of flight. First, make sure that the batteries are charged, and when this is a gas plane that the plane is fueled up capable to go. This is a basic tip, try to remember to have your flight pack with you when going anywhere using the RC plane. That way the plane can have an easy flight along with the hobbyist will have a satisfying experience.
2. Being at the best place in the right time
The next tip must be to ensure that the wind isn't too strong. A strong wind will definitely knock the plane around. It can break the wings, dislodge key components and definitely impede any aerobatic stunts how the flyer is trying attempting. The best time of day to fly is often noon, when the sun is its zenith and the winds are calmest. Certainly, in the event the must fly is urgent then forget the wind conditions. It will cause problems if attempting any rolls, loops or dips, but a quick fly time might be better.
3. Checking balance and adding weight where necessary
The next idea is to confirm the weight along with the balance with the machine by testing it in air. The plane needs to be healthy before flying. There is a center of gravity that affects the RC airplanes flying time. The first step is always to put your fingers beneath the wing then lift the plane as much as observe how well it balances. The plane should be level and not dip, whether it does then obviously the center of balance will must be adjusted. The plane could be adjusted by adding weight for the front in the plane with modeling clay or whether or not this is the back or tail again add modeling clay. The hobbyist can then learn about the next phase.
4. Pre-flight check
The pre-flight check is the next phase to ensuring the perfect fly. The wing and tail needs to be fastened, ensure the plane moves freely, the radio batteries are charging easily, the range is okay and also the mechanisms operate correctly.
5. Test-glide
The next step is the test glide. A test glide shows the flyer how the plane will land whether it crashes, make sure to do that can be an area with cushioning. Then the next step is to check the way the plane ascends, referred to as the takeoff. The plane needs to be faced on the wind, and after that switched on. The engine then needs to be given full power, and also the plane are able to be launched. The plane should move swiftly in the air, without stalling.
To recap, a pre-flight test is important to the overall functioning of the plane, next look at the flight pack, then look into the balance in the plane, confirm the wind, and test the remove.
